The fact that BIM World is held in France, and specifically in Paris, is explained by key factors that underscore France’s leadership in BIM:
- Pioneering initiatives in BIM: France has been engaged in BIM since 2007, with the Plan de transition numérique dans le bâtiment (digital transition in building plan) in 2014 and the BIM plan in 2022. These initiatives have focused on the adoption of BIM by microbusinesses and SMEs, demonstrating a national commitment to standardizing and innovating in BIM.
- Infrastructure and the economy: As a capital city, Paris is the heart of an economically powerful region. It is the leading territory in sales for construction businesses and has the largest budget in France in this sector. Its strategic position as a European hub and its connectivity with international cities like Montréal make it accessible and attractive for major international events.
- Centre of excellence and research: The region of Paris is home to centres of excellence in construction and has strong potential in research and innovation. These attributes contribute to an environment conducive to promoting and developing BIM.
- Innovative projects and global leaders: Paris was the site for noteworthy BIM projects, such as the PREP Métropole France Paris, Réinventer Paris, and the redevelopment of the Eiffel Tower site using BIM. These projects illustrate the importance of BIM in the national strategy, particularly in the Ministère de la Transition écologique’s national low carbon strategy (Stratégie nationale Bas-Carbone (SNBC)).
These factors position France, and particularly Paris, as ideal sites to host BIM World, offering a context conducive to sharing knowledge and innovation, as well as promoting best practices in the field of BIM globally.
