In the fall of 2020, the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal kicked off the Relaunch MTL movement with the objective of mobilizing all of the actors in Greater Montréal's economic ecosystem to revive the city's major strategic sectors: aerospace, construction and infrastructure, retail trade and fashion, creative and cultural industries, transportation and logistics, life sciences and health technology, financial services, cleantech and the green economy, information technology and tourism.

This exercise in mobilization took place via a series of virtual events and resulted in the development of eleven action plans that provide a detailed understanding of the issues faced by many of the city's key sectors. At the end of the Strategic Forums, concrete courses of action were identified in order to guide the three levels of government and businesses in their response to the challenges faced by these sectors and to help them drive their recovery more effectively. The following actions were carried out using the movement's momentum:

  • 11 sectoral action plans were developed in collaboration with 17 clusters and platforms that support mobilization
  • 175 representatives and stakeholders from the concerned sectors were called upon
  • 110 priority courses of action were mapped out
  • 11 strategic sector-based forums took place
  • 6 business luncheons were held
  • 6000 participants were mobilized
  • 1 joint declaration was signed by over 200 people

Relaunch MTL, one year later

How are things going one year later? That's the question that the Chamber and its partners have attempted to answer via a series of virtual discussions with representatives from the ten sectoral clusters in the metropolitan area who have played an active role in Relaunch MTL. Moderated by Michel Leblanc, these discussions are intended to review the current state of affairs in these sectors and the courses of action that have been taken as part of Relaunch MTL in the past year, including their contribution to reviving the businesses that make up these sectors.

The discussions are a unique opportunity to take stock of the sectors that contribute to the city's prosperity and to identify new opportunities for our businesses. All of this has a common goal: the successful revival of Montréal's economy.
