Montréal, March 11, 2016 ‒ The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, in cooperation with Intact Financial Corporation, is pleased to announce that this spring it will hold a day to familiarize Syrian refugees with the business milieu to help them enter the job market in Greater Montréal.
“For Syrian refugees to integrate to Quebec society, they need to be part of the job market,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “It is our collective responsibility to support them as they look for work. At the Board of Trade, we firmly believe in their ability to integrate and contribute to the city’s social and economic development. Contact with the business community during this day will help participants initiate their first professional relationships, which are essential to successfully integrating to the workforce.”
“In response to the Board of Trade’s call in December, more than 50 representatives of the business community committed to hiring Syrian refugees or offering them professional coaching,” Michel Leblanc said. “Intact Financial Corporation is well aware of the Board of Trade’s expertise in integrating immigrants from having participated in the Interconnection program, so it decided to get involved by making a financial contribution that made it possible to organize this professional integration event tailored to the needs of Syrian refugees. I applaud their commitment and thank them for their support.”
During this event, members of the business community will be part of a seminar on the Montréal job market to introduce Syrian refugees to the leading sectors in Greater Montréal, occupations and professions in demand, the organizational reality in SMEs and the work culture in Quebec. The seminar will be followed by a structured networking activity which some 100 representatives of businesses and mentors mobilized by the Board of Trade will be invited to.
