As part of public consultations on the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain’s (ARTM) Strategic Development Plan (SDP), the Chamber has published a brief entitled The ARTM Strategic Development Plan: Impetus for Mobility in Greater Montréal. The consultations are designed to gather thoughts from the entire community about this vision of metropolitan mobility for the next thirty years.
Mobility remains an important concern for the business community. Traffic and delays in completing major structuring public transit projects continue to have an impact on businesses and the attractiveness of Greater Montréal, while public transit’s modal share is increasing very slowly. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on both the ridership and revenue of public transit agencies and on the habits of users. Given these many challenges, the Chamber welcomes this initial strategic planning exercise. It has proposed five principles for success and eleven recommendations to ensure the SDP is optimally implemented to benefit the entire community.
