Effectively selecting and integrating immigrants: a business community priority

With the tabling of Bill 9 and its policy commitments, the Chamber notes the Government of Quebec’s intention to temporarily reduce immigration levels to 40,000 newcomers in 2019, while supporting the objective of more effectively integrating immigrants to the job market and Quebec society.

Our brief proposes avenues for solutions that foster better integration, a more immediate response to the needs of companies and continued economic momentum. Some of the efforts are simple and logical: (1) the Government of Quebec has to ensure the selection process is simple, efficient and easy to understand for anyone who wants to immigrate to Quebec; (2) The government has to ensure it targets populations likely to find it easiest to integrate, such as foreign students and temporary foreign workers; and (3) the government must devote the resources required to support and encourage the francization of immigrants who need it.
