The Chamber is taking advantage of the Committee on Labour and the Economy’s specific consultations for the consideration of Bill 15 to share its thoughts on the role of economic development in enhancing the Olympic facilities. With the powers granted by the Act respecting the Société de développement et de mise en valeur du Parc olympique, the body that succeeds the Régie des installations olympiques will have new tools to exploit the site’s full potential and expand its contribution to the city’s development.
The Olympic Park must fully assume its role as an economic and athletic hub. Original and ambitious commercial offerings will ensure a long life for the sports facilities at the heart of Montréal’s Olympic heritage. By implementing a commercial strategy, we can increase the number of visitors to the site and extend its reach well beyond the boundaries of the Olympic Park.
The creation of an employment centre, redevelopment of peripheral streets, consolidation of recreational and tourism services, integration of emerging technologies, development of partnerships and long-term agreements: in its brief, the Chamber proposes a series of recommendations to make the Olympic Park a real cornerstone of eastern Montréal’s development.
