Recommendations from the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal about the 2022 Québec Research and Innovation Strategy

The Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal is pleased to submit an opinion as part of consultations on the 2022 edition of the Québec Research and Innovation Strategy. The recommendations are based on work by the Chamber that emerged from Relaunch MTL and the Strategic Forum entitled "Universities, CEGEPs, businesses: Working together for a strong, innovative and socially responsible economy," held on May 31, in cooperation with the Fonds de recherche du Québec (FRQ).

The pandemic has laid bare the fundamental role of research and innovation in society and the economy. Partnerships between the research milieu and the business world have taken off in the past year, which has contributed to finding lasting solutions to quickly relaunch our economy.

To build on this momentum, Québec has a complete support ecosystem for research and innovation, which needs to be further strengthened. We need to meet training and labour attraction needs, increase innovation in SMEs, and substantially improve the commercialization of research and innovation.
