Montréal, October 30, 2015 ‒ The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the launch of Passeport Entreprises, announced today by the Minister responsible for Government Administration and Ongoing Program Review and Chair of the Conseil du trésor, Martin Coiteux, accompanied by the Minister for Small and Medium Enterprises, Regulatory Streamlining and Regional Economic Development, Jean-Denis Girard. This initiative is a step in the right direction to give businesses – particularly small businesses – easier access to public contracts.
“Better access to public procurement will help SMEs grow by giving them a chance to demonstrate their expertise to the government, the largest buyer in the province,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Government contracts are also an excellent showcase for small businesses that want to win other public contracts internationally. The government’s efforts will help small businesses transition to medium-sized businesses, one of the city’s major economic challenges.”
“A number of the proposed efforts respond directly to the business community’s concerns,” Michel Leblanc said. “Payment timeframes, the complexity of requests for proposals and impeded access to information are major barriers for SMEs. The Board of Trade is already very much involved with small businesses, offering seminars and training about how to stay informed of upcoming projects and how municipal, provincial, federal and even international government procurement works. The government can count on the Board of Trade’s full cooperation for the next steps and the implementation of these efforts.”
