The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes
the taking of a crucial step in the CHUM project
Montréal, March 30 2009 The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted that the Quebec Government has made a firm commitment to support the construction of the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM), as witnessed by today's announcement by Quebec Premier Jean Charest that a request for proposals has been launched.
Today we are taking a fundamental step in the accomplishment of the CHUM project. By launching a request for proposals, the government and its partners are reaffirming their commitment to see this project move forward. This announcement sets the tone for an elaborate, promising, strategic project contributing not only to the health care provided to Montrealers and leading-edge research, but also to the prosperity of our metropolis, declared Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
Preparatory work has been done for several years both by the CHUM and the MUHC. These projects are moving forward, and today's announcement is in line with this continuous process. For Montréal's business community, it is both a strong signal and an invitation to act, added Leblanc.
The success of the new CHUM is of prime importance to Montréal. The CHUM will bring together world-class medical teams and give our metropolis a network of unique skills and facilities. It will strengthen our ability to attract and train the top experts in various medical fields. Thanks to the complementary facilities and infrastructures that will locate nearby, it will enhance our city's reputation in the life sciences sector, concluded Leblanc.
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montréal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
