The Board of Trade of MetropolitanMontreal sets up a task force on
Montréal's governance and taxation issues
Montréal, September 10, 2009 The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is pleased to announce the creation of a task force focusing on the issues of governance and taxation in Montréal. Chaired by Mr. Marcel Côté, Founding Partner of SECOR Consulting, and Mr. Claude Séguin, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Development and Strategic Investment, at CGI, and former Deputy Minister of Finance for the Government of Quebec, the task force is the result of a recommendation made during the last annual congress of the Association des économistes québécois (ASDEQ) to reflect on concrete ways to better meet the governance and taxation challenges facing Montréal.
Other members of the task force are:
- Mr. André Boisclair, Senior Consultant at Ernst & Young and former Minister of State of Municipal Affairs and Greater Montréal;
- Mr. André Delisle, Corporate Director and Consultant, and former Treasurer and Director of Finance for the City of Montréal;
- Mr. Gilles Godbout, Consultant and former Deputy Minister, Ministère des Finances du Québec;
- Mr. Louis Roquet, President and COO of Desjardins Venture Capital and former Secretary General of the City of Montréal and CEO of the Montréal Urban Community;
- Ms. Diane Wilhelmy, Consultant, former Deputy Minister in the Government of Quebec, and former Quebec Delegate General in New York.
The Board of Trade considers itself privileged to be able to count on the enthusiastic participation of these exceptional individuals. Their credibility and experience not only make them seasoned and passionate observers of the city, but also skilful strategists, capable of proposing feasible changes within the larger context of the Quebec political world. Also, it is with pride and great recognition of their commitment that we are today confirming their participation in the task force, stated the President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, Michel Leblanc.
Resulting from a non-partisan initiative, the recommendations will be revealed in a report that will be made public early in 2010.
We chose to clearly circumscribe the mandate of the task force. The aim is to present targeted recommendations that will enlighten the newly elected administration in its choices relating to governance and taxation, and which will complete the proposals for change that it will express, notably to the Government of Quebec. We are therefore talking about the determination of a restricted number of actions to be taken. These actions, in addition to being concrete, must be unifying and must promote change, we hope, in the months following the tabling of the report in January, concluded Michel Leblanc.
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montréal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness.
