The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal pays tribute to
the Great Montrealers of 2010: Ms. Hélène Desmarais, Mr. Yvon Deschamps,
Mr. Claude Montmarquette, and Dr. Gilles Julien
Montréal, November 17, 2010 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal will pay tribute to four new Great Montrealers this evening, at a reception in their honour at the Loft Hotel.
This year, the Academy of Great Montrealers welcomes into its ranks Ms. Hélène Desmarais in the economic sector, Mr. Yvon Deschamps in the cultural sector, Mr. Claude Montmarquette in the science sector, and Dr. Gilles Julien in the social sector.
“Through their commitment, their creativity, their desire to bring change to society, and the passion with which they aim to reach new heights, the Great Montrealers we are honouring this evening endlessly contribute to the magnificence of our city. It is with great pride that we pay tribute to Montrealers who inspire us and move us forward,” declared Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
“In all of the sectors of activity in which they have worked, the Great Montrealers of 2010 have had a hand in shaping Montréal into a city that is dynamic, diverse, supportive, and open to the world. Their ideas and achievements serve as a measuring stick and a source motivation for each of us,” added Michel Leblanc.
The 2010 Tribute to Great Montrealers reception is made possible thanks to the support of Hydro-Québec, in collaboration with Le Devoir. Since 1978, 114 personalities have been honoured—including the four this year—and today make up the Academy of Great Montrealers. Biographies and photos of the laureates can be found on the Board of Trade’s Website.
