The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal acknowledges
the talent of the secondary school and vocational education students
who won the 2007 Outstanding Student Awards
Montreal, May 29, 2007 Today, twelve Secondary V and vocational education students from metropolitan Montreal school boards and private educational institutions received the 2007 Outstanding Student Awards from the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. The awards were presented during a private cocktail party preceding a business luncheon at which Suzanne Sauvage, president of Cossette Communication Group, was guest speaker.
Education is a decisive competitive factor for major urban centres such as Montreal, and many companies and investors choose to locate here knowing they will find a competent local labour force. We must therefore do everything possible to encourage young people to excel and to instil in them a taste for excellence and hard work. It was with this in mind that we established the Outstanding Student Awards, a competition highlighting the efforts of the younger generation and their exceptional successes, declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
For the past twenty-five years, the Board of Trade has organized this annual competition to acknowledge the talent and excellence of our young people in the following four categories: Arts, Vocational Education, Social Science/Languages, and Science/Mathematics.
I would like to warmly congratulate the twelve winners of the Outstanding Student Awards and also highlight the quality of the work of the 58 finalists. Once again this year, the contest attracted strong applicants. The winners demonstrated that they have the drive and energy needed to succeed. I would also like to point out that all the participants deserve our praise. For these young people have shown they have the determination needed to make their mark in the world and can look forward to a bright future. In a metropolis like Montreal, where the competition demands that companies recruit the best talents, I have no doubt they will be able to find their place, added Hudon.

The gold, silver, and bronze medallists received scholarships of $1,000, $700, and $300 respectively, as well as a gold, silver, or bronze plaque. In addition to academic achievements, this competition highlights personal attributes and team spirit of our future executives, entrepreneurs, artists, specialists and technicians.
