Trade mission to Calgary: strong partnership potential for the city’s businesses

Montreal, November 14, 2013 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and its team of international trade experts, the World Trade Centre Montréal, are pleased with the results of the trade mission to Calgary, organized in cooperation with the Alberta Enterprise Group. This trade mission provided a forum for numerous business meetings between participants and key players in the Alberta energy and construction sectors.

“The results of this mission are very positive,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and leader of the trade mission to Calgary. “Over 30 participants from Quebec businesses had a chance to meet future business partners. The activities during this trade mission gave participating Quebec businesses a better grasp of Alberta market opportunities. And our Albertan counterparts found out about the business and partnership opportunities in Greater Montréal.”

“I took part in this trade mission to substantiate the short- and medium-term business opportunities in Alberta,” said Sébastien Grimard, Director, Special Projects at GRIMARD, a construction company with 300 employees. “After market information sessions and one-on-one meetings with buyers, I am going home convinced that with the quality of our workers, we will be a success here.”

With the support of the Alberta Enterprise Group, the World Trade Centre Montréal team offered participants a complete program of over 80 individual meetings and personalized guidance to help develop business relationships. Trade mission participants met with some of the largest corporations in Alberta, including Suncor, Enbridge, Tervita and CNRL. Furthermore, important decision makers, including Alberta’s Finance Minister and Energy Minister, spoke to participants during networking activities organized for the trade mission.

“To grow and ensure their competitiveness, businesses have to consider diversifying their markets,” Mr. Leblanc said. “This is why this trade mission is an important step for Montréal businesses. Alberta is brimming with opportunity. The Board of Trade will continue its efforts to increase opportunities for encounters between local businesses and their Albertan counterparts. Ultimately, our collective prosperity will benefit.”

This trade mission was made possible through the support of Norton Rose Fulbright.
