Quebec small businesses get involved in reconstruction efforts in Haiti
Montréal, September 23, 2010 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and its team of international trade experts – the World Trade Centre Montréal – are proud to welcome a delegation of leaders in the reconstruction efforts in Haiti. This major event is being presented September 24 by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, in cooperation with the Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation.
“Given the major presence of the Haitian community in Montréal and the remarkable mobilization of the public to support the victims of the earthquake that shook the country on January 12, it was essential that the Board of Trade organize an event that would let the Montréal business community know how it could contribute to Haiti’s reconstruction,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade.
“The needs for the reconstruction are enormous, as is the demand for products and services from outside the country,” Michel Leblanc said. “Participating companies will have the chance to meet representatives of organizations that are key players in Haiti’s reconstruction. Their initiatives offer small businesses the opportunity to participate fully in a wide variety of sectors.”
More than 100 Quebec companies will benefit from the Montréal visit of representatives of the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Canadian International Development Agency and the Haiti Reconstruction Fund. In addition to benefiting from one-on-one meetings with these organizations, participants will attend a seminar on the procurement process of the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank and find out more about their efforts in Haiti.
