Exporting Quebec – Trade Mission to New York
Quebec companies form business ties in the information technology and business solutions sectors
Montréal, October 1, 2010 – As part of their Exporting Quebec initiative, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and its team of international trade experts, the World Trade Centre Montréal, participated in a trade mission to New York on September 29 and 30. This trade mission, organized in cooperation with the Quebec Government Office in New York during its 70th anniversary year, provided a delegation of Quebec companies the opportunity to develop business relationships in the information technology and business solutions sectors.
“The United States is a leading trade partner for Quebec and is an essential market for our companies that want to do business internationally,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade. “So it’s essential that the Board of Trade support Quebec small businesses in their trade efforts with our neighbours to the south. This is why we got involved in this trade mission, which gave our entrepreneurs the opportunity to network with potential foreign partners.”
Participants had the chance to attend the seminar “Leveraging Hot Technologies” organized by the Wall Street Technology Association. They also took part in a networking event held by the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, with Montréal Mayor Gérald Tremblay as guest of honour. A roundtable and one-on-one meetings also helped the delegation initiate business relationships with potential New York partners.
This trade mission is already showing concrete results, as Félix Laroche, Vice-President of commercial development for JLR Recherche immobilière, explains: “This trade mission was essential for the development of our company in the United States and made us realize that our products have a lot of potential in New York, the U.S. and even internationally. We already have a number of opportunities.”
The Board of Trade thanks its partners in the Exporting Quebec initiative, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, Export Development Canada and La Presse.
Through its team of experts at the World Trade Centre Montréal, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal provides international trade services to the greater business community, with the support of Canada Economic Development.
