Montreal, September 24, 2013 - On the occasion of the exhibition game between the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Mets at Olympic Stadium, the Montreal Baseball Project (MBP) invites baseball fans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of one of the best Major League Baseball teams of all time, the 1994 Montreal Expos, at a gala at the Queen Elizabeth on March 29.
“I would like to take advantage of Major League Baseball’s brief visit to Montreal to honour this incredible team, which had a major impact on its fans,” said Warren Cromartie, President and Founder of the Montreal Baseball Project. Former Expos manager Felipe Alou as well as former pitcher and broadcaster Claude Raymond will be the gala’s guests of honour.
As well, the Montreal Baseball Project, in partnership with evenko, will honour the players of the 1994 Expos team by reuniting them on the field at Olympic Stadium during the second exhibition game between the Blue Jays and the Mets. “Fans at the game will be given the opportunity to relive the glory years of baseball in Montreal,” said Mr. Cromartie. “This weekend will be the perfect occasion to show that Montreal deserves a Major League Baseball team.”
“The Expos helped shape our era—seeing these former players reunited on the stadium field will be a very special occasion for thousands of fans. We would like to thank the Blue Jays organization for supporting this tribute to the 1994 Expos team,” added Jacques Aubé, general manager at evenko.
Tickets to the March 29 gala can be purchased on the Montreal Baseball Project website (Montrealbaseballproject.com).
