The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal regrets the abandonment of
the Peel Basin Entertainment Complex project
Montreal, March 10, 2006 The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal was extremely disappointed to learn of the announcement today by Loto-Québec and Cirque du Soleil that the Peel Basin Entertainment Complex is being abandoned.
A creative and ambitious project such as that proposed by Loto-Québec and Cirque du Soleil is bound to involve a number of challenges, stated Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade. We applaud Messrs. Cousineau and Laliberté and their respective teams for putting forward this unique and innovative initiative. We have collectively missed an exceptional opportunity to launch the revitalization of a sector of Montreal where the need is genuine. We are also losing out on a project that would have showcased Montreal's creativity and know-how and contributed to the city's standing on the world stage.
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montreal and to provide individuals, merchants and businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
