The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal
takes part in the 9th Annual Journées de la culture

Montreal, September 30, 2005 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is proud to take part for a second year in the Journées de la culture, now in its 9th edition. To mark the occasion, the Board of Trade welcomes Ms. Louise Sicuro, the president, director general and founder of Les Journées de la culture, as keynote speaker, as well as offer artists an exceptional showcase for exhibiting their works to members and the general public alike.

For one day, the Board of Trade will transform the Ruelle des Fortifications at the World Trade Center Montréal into a veritable art gallery complete with guest artists and, in cooperation with the Festival of the Arts for Young Audiences, remake its own premises into a cultural centre with puppet workshops given by the Théâtre de la Dame de Cœur.

“Artists and creators are one of Montreal 's most invaluable resources, and that is why we are privileged to be able to count on their talent and energy to further the reputation of our great city. In the opinion of the Board of Trade, creativity and cultural vitality are essential ingredients in the distinctive character of our city and its quality of life. They are an integral part of Montreal's image, not only locally but also in the international arena, and they contribute to our city's power to attract—and especially retain—talent, whatever the area of activity may be,” said Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

“If we want to position Montreal favourably compared to the world's other great cities, we have to do everything in our power to support that cultural vitality, which is a great source of pride and strength. For that reason, the Board of Trade reaffirms its commitment to promote and defend the important role that culture plays in the complete and harmonious development of Montreal and to be creative itself in doing everything possible to reach that goal,” she concluded.

Les Journées de la culture were launched in 1997 to celebrate and promote public access to Quebec 's culture. During three days of free activities, Les Journées de la culture offer a multitude of unique opportunities for the general public to enjoy culture and the arts in large and small communities throughout the province.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its mission is to represent the interests of the business community for the greater Montreal area and to offer a full range of specialized services to individuals, merchants and companies of all sizes so as to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is the largest private organization in Quebec dedicated to economic development.
