launches its 2003-2004 season of activities

Montreal, September 24, 2003 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has announced its list of guest speakers for the 2003-2004 season of business luncheons. This prestigious Board of Trade forum has built an excellent reputation over the past several years.

The Board of Trade's primary objective is to promote the economic development of the metropolitan area and the establishment of optimal conditions for creating new wealth and realizing the full potential of the companies and initiatives of its members. It is from this perspective that guest speakers at the Board of Trade's public forums address its members as well as those of the metropolitan Montreal business community.

During the 2003-2004 season, the ten speakers in the Board of Trade's “Desjardins” business luncheon series will share with participants their vision of the economic development that metropolitan Montreal, the economic engine of Quebec. The speakers will also explain how their sector of activity will contribute to this vision.

The “Desjardins” business luncheons are produced in association with the Air Canada, Alcoa Canada, Aon Parizeau inc./Aon Reed Stenhouse, Bell Canada, Bombardier Inc., Diners Club International, Gowling Lafleur Henderson LLP, Samson Bélair / Deloitte & Touche, SNC-Lavalin Group Inc. and SSQ Financial Group.

The following public activities have also been added to the 2003-2004 schedule of events:

The “RBC Financial Group” special business luncheons are one-time events, where players on the municipal, provincial, and federal political scenes present their vision of the development of metropolitan Montreal. The “RBC Financial Group” special business luncheons are produced in association with Le Journal de Montréal, Richter and Telus Québec.

The “Alcan” Hot issues@lunch events present topical issues of burning interest for in-depth discussion. The “Alcan” Hot issues@lunch events are produced in association with Borden Ladner Gervais LLP and Le Journal de Montréal.

The early morning Perspectives breakfast meetings facilitate direct discussion between participants and guest speakers.

The Media Perspectives series, produced in association with SITQ Immobilier, present challenges and issues faced by the media.

The “Allstream” Technology Perspectives series offers guest speakers a chance to share their vision of the capacity and need for adaptation and innovation in their sector of activity to best position metropolitan Montreal as a global technology hub. The “Allstream” Technology Perspectives series is produced in association with Bouthillette Parizeau & Associés, CGI Group inc., Pratt & Whitney Canada and Mendelsohn.

The “Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton” Trends Perspectives series, produced in association with Hydro-Québec, deals with new ways of doing things, from an economic, political, and social perspective, that can often guide us toward new standards of quality and success.

In addition to our public events, the Board of Trade will offer its members and the business community over 80 networking and training opportunities. Thanks to its new service branches, the Board of Trade will also present events in the areas of exporting and e-business.

We invite you to consult the Board of Trade's Web site frequently (http://www.btmm.qc.ca/activities) to learn more about our various activities. Changes to our program may be made during the season and new activities added. Media representatives are welcome to attend all of our public forums.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its mission is to be the leading group representing the interests of the Greater Montreal business community. Its objectives are to maintain, at all times, relevance to its membership, credibility towards the public and influence towards government and decision-makers. The Board of Trade relies on its three service branches - Info entreprises, the Electronic Commerce Institute, and the World Trade Centre Montréal - to offer specialized services to the greater business community.
