The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal inks partnership agreement with China
Beijing, September 24, 2005 As part of an economic mission to China headed by Quebec Premier Jean Charest, the president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, Isabelle Hudon, today signed a partnership agreement in Beijing with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade.
This mission to China is an opportunity to forge new business alliances of benefit to China , Greater Montreal and Quebec as a whole. In this regard, the agreement concluded between the Board of Trade and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) will promote trade exchanges and the creation of economic ties between Montreal and China by, for example, welcoming a national CCPIT representative to the Board of Trade team.
Trade globalization is allowing China to enjoy unprecedented economic growth. Its emergence as an international economic powerhouse has created untold business opportunities for Quebec , whose exports to China have doubled in the past five years.
The Board of Trade believes that all Montreal and Quebec businesses need to have an expansion strategy in which the possibility of exporting to China is analyzed. This is important because the growth of Montreal , as the economic engine of Quebec , is driven by businesses, particularly those that can shine abroad. Through their expertise and know-how, these companies are actively involved in wealth creation. That's why we have everything to gain from cultivating ties with this new major player so that we can maximize our international reach and make our economic exchanges productive, stated Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its mission is to represent the interests of the business community for the greater Montreal area and to offer a full range of specialized services to individuals, merchants and companies of all sizes so as to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is the largest private organization in Quebec dedicated to economic development.
