The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal
congratulates Denys Arcand,
winner of the Oscar for best foreign-language film
Montreal, March 1, 2004 On behalf of its some 7,000 members, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal warmly congratulates filmmaker Denys Arcand and producer Denise Robert, whose movie Les invasions barbares won the Oscar for best foreign-language film last night in Los Angeles.
All of Quebec can be justly proud of the international acclaim awarded its cultural artisans. Their contribution to this success deserves to be highlighted, because by winning the Oscar for best foreign-language film and being nominated for best original screenplay, their work not only promotes the prosperity of Quebec culture internationally but is also the first Canadian film in history to earn this title, declared Benoit Labonté, president of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
The Board of Trade views creativity as a vital contributor to the economic development of Greater Montreal and promotes it enthusiastically. We are therefore honoured to be able to count on the invaluable contributions of Mr. Arcand and Ms. Robert in making the City of Montreal an even more dynamic region from a cultural perspective, thereby contributing to its improved quality of life and economic development, while enhancing the international competitiveness of the metropolis. We would thus like to once again extend our sincere congratulations and express our gratitude for their valuable contributions to the cultural success of Quebec, concluded Labonté.
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of the Greater Montreal region and, as a contributing and responsible player, to promote the economic development of the urban area. Encompassing three specialized services (Info entreprises, the Electronic Commerce Institute and World Trade Centre Montréal) that serve merchants and businesses of all sizes throughout Quebec and Canada, the Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
