Reaction of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal
to the cabinet shuffle
Montreal, February 27, 2006 The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the changes made to his cabinet today by Quebec Premier Jean Charest.
The arrival in the cabinet of Raymond Bachand and the appointment of Claude Béchard as Minister of Sustainable development, Environment, and Parks bodes well for the future of Greater Montreal, declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
We are delighted that Mr. Bachand's experience and economic know-how will be put to good use in a ministry as strategic as Economic development, Innovation, and Export trade. We are confident that his understanding of the metropolis's enormous development potential will enable him to provide effective support to the growth of the province's economic engine in the interests of all Quebecers, continued Hudon.
In his earlier positions, Mr. Béchard demonstrated energy and a deep appreciation of the importance of Montreal to the prosperity of Quebec. At a time when the quality of urban life and public transit are fundamental to any sustainable development, we welcome the arrival of Mr. Béchard to another ministry important to the progress of Quebec, concluded Hudon.
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montreal and to provide individuals, merchants, and businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
