Jean Laurin appointed chairman of the
Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal
Montreal, October 14, 2003 At the annual meeting of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal today, its members appointed Jean Laurin to the position of chairman for a one-year term. He succeeds Mr. Jacques Parisien, president and chief executive officer of Astral Radio. Mr. Parisien now becomes retiring chairman of the board.
President and chief executive officer of Devencore Ltd, Mr. Laurin joined Devencore as a graduate in business administration from Université du Québec à Montréal in 1973. He was named president in 1983 and chief executive officer of the Devencore Group in 2000. This company is Canada's leading real estate advisor and broker working exclusively for space users. Devencore assists decision-makers of companies with local, national and/or international facilities in improving their performance with innovative solutions for their real estate needs. Mr. Laurin's objective is to make Devencore one of the most sophisticated professional real estate service firms in North America.
The chairman is called upon to be actively involved in the Board of Trade's activities for a two-year period the first as chairman of the board and the second as outgoing chairman. During these two years, Mr. Laurin will sit on both the executive committee and the human resource committee. Since April 2002, the position of permanent president has been occupied by Mr. Benoit Labonté, who thus serves as the Board of Trade's CEO and official spokesperson.
To fully carry out its mission, in terms of both representing the interests of the business community and delivering specialized services, the Board of Trade counts on the daily support of a dynamic team with diversified skills, inspired by a common vision and the constant desire to help metropolitan Montreal realize its full potential at the economic, social, and cultural levels, concluded Jean Laurin, chairman of the board.
