Clarifications concerning the Board of Trade's mandate to study
the strategic development of international events
Montreal , August 4, 2005 The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal would like to provide the following clarifications with respect to the mandate entrusted to it jointly by the City of Montreal and Canada Economic Development to study the strategic development of international events.
The main objective of this study is to develop a strategic positioning for hosting international events in Montreal . Once this has been done, the report, which will be submitted to the City and CED in the winter of 2006, will make recommendations concerning the types of events sports, cultural and others that Montreal should target in its prospecting initiatives. These recommendations will take into account Montreal 's strengths and strategic development goals. Finally, the study will also propose ways and means to achieve this positioning and to organize future events.
This mandate does not call for evaluating Montreal 's feasibility as a candidate for a specific event.
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montreal and to provide individuals, merchants and businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec 's leading private economic development organization.
