Montréal, October 1, 2014 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal applauds the official announcement of a bill to create the Société du Plan Nord, tabled by the Minister of Natural Resources, Pierre Arcand. The Board of Trade is particularly pleased with the new marketing office that will facilitate efforts by businesses in Montréal and the regions to meet needs in terms of supplies and equipment for prime contractors working within Plan Nord territory.
“We congratulate the government for these announcements, which make the revival of the Plan Nord a reality,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “We are confident that the development of Northern Quebec will generate many business opportunities for every region, including Montréal.”
“The metropolitan area has 1,800 of the 3,800 suppliers in mining and mineral manufacturing in Quebec,” Mr. Leblanc said. “Clearly, the spinoffs from the Plan Nord for the city will be tremendous. In 2012, the Board of Trade published a study that put potential economic benefits from the first draft of the Plan Nord at $52 billion for the metropolitan area.”
“On December 8, the Board of Trade will hold a strategic forum on natural resources,” Mr. Leblanc said. “This forum will be the perfect time to identify opportunities and develop business partnerships.”
