Montréal, January 21, 2014 – The co-chairs of the Honorary Committee for the Prix Arts-Affaires de Montréal, Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, and Jan-Fryderyk Pleszczynski, Interim Chair of the Conseil des arts de Montréal, kicked off the 2013 edition of the competition today.
Ties between arts and business have been growing stronger for a number of years. Since 1992, the Prix Arts-Affaires have been doing their part to ensure that those ties expand, diversify and multiply. The Prix Arts-Affaires were created to give Greater Montréal arts and cultural organizations the chance to thank members of the business community who have offered invaluable support during the year. The awards recognize the innovative spirit of business people and promote different forms of support to the arts to encourage other people and businesses to find their own ways to contribute.
“There are many ways to support culture, and the Prix Arts-Affaires are a chance for artists to showcase these,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Since these awards were created, we have seen business people in Montréal finding many ways to develop new partnerships and mutually enriching relationships. I encourage cultural organizations to tell us their stories to inspire the business community to seek out new ones.”
“What people don’t always realize about the relationship between business and the arts is how close and complementary artists and business people are,” said Jan-Fryderyk Pleszczynski, Interim Chair of the Conseil des arts de Montréal. “These awards give Montréal artists a chance to shine a light on their partnership stories and show how effectively business people can contribute. I encourage arts organizations to share their stories by nominating men and women from different companies that have demonstrated their commitment and openness.”
Arts organizations are encouraged to nominate business partners by March 10, 2014. Nominees need to have been involved with the arts organization during the reference period from January 1 to December 31, 2013.
