Montréal, June 4, 2014 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted with yesterday’s launch of two new direct flights from Montréal-Trudeau Airport: a Copa Airlines flight to Panama and a Turkish Airlines flight to Istanbul. These are in addition to the Syphax Airlines flight to Tunis, which has been in service since April.
“These direct flights to Turkey, Panama and Tunisia will provide Quebec and Montréal businesses direct access to markets representing over 90 million consumers,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “By expanding the range of itineraries, these three new flights will offer easier access to the most promising markets in Asia, the Middle East and Latin America. The Board of Trade encourages businesses to use these new direct flights to tap into business opportunities in these new markets.”
“Direct flights generate considerable spinoffs for Greater Montréal’s economy and tourism sector,” Michel Leblanc said. “This is why the Board of Trade takes part in initiatives to obtain new direct flights and applauds the efforts of Aéroports de Montréal, its partners and air carriers in developing these international direct flights. We hope that these efforts will lead to direct flights to Asia being introduced this year, particularly to China.”
“For the past 30 years, the Board of Trade’s team of international trade experts, the World Trade Centre Montréal, has been educating and supporting businesses in their efforts to diversify on international markets,” Mr. Leblanc said. “We are holding a seminar today in partnership with the Canadian-Turkish Business Council and the Turkish-Canadian Business Council about business opportunities in Turkey. The Board of Trade encourages the city’s businesses to take advantage of these activities and the new direct flights to reinforce their international presence.”
