The Board of Trade congratulates new Cabinet members and offers its full support in revitalizing the city’s economy

Montréal, April 23, 2014 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal congratulates the 26 new ministers, particularly the members of Parliament from the Montréal area, appointed by Québec Premier Philippe Couillard and sworn in today in the National Assembly.

“In the weeks leading up to the April 7 election, we emphasized the urgency of improving Greater Montréal’s business environment to make the city more competitive and prosperous,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “We would like to reiterate the importance of reducing individual and corporate tax burdens once the budget is balanced. We also have to increase the qualified labour available to companies, ensure adequate financing for public transit and step up efforts to rebuild the city’s strategic infrastructures. The Board of Trade will offer its full cooperation to Mr. Couillard’s team in tackling these challenges.”

“The Board of Trade is delighted with the mandate given to the new Minister responsible for Montréal, Robert Poëti, to waste no time in drafting a bill to give Montréal metropolitan status,” Michel Leblanc said. “This status must allow the city to identify new sources of financing, something that is essential to improving our economic performance and increasing the collective wealth of the entire province.”
