Montréal, September 8, 2014 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal firmly supports the planned Urban Mobility Management Centre, announced today by Montréal Mayor Denis Coderre’s administration. The centre will help improve traffic around Greater Montréal.
“This is excellent news for Montréal,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Major cities need to put in place innovative technology solutions to improve the flow of people and goods. Montréal is no exception to this and in fact needs to play catch-up. This initiative from Mayor Coderre will enable real-time decisions to promote the mobility of Montrealers. It’s a step in the right direction.”
“Unfortunately, Montréal is one of the North American cities with the worst record for traffic,” Mr. Leblanc said. “Traffic jams cost our economy over $1.8 billion every year. That said, we have the resources, knowledge, know-how and skills right here to implement solutions, some of which have already been put to the test in other locations.”
A Strategic Forum in 2015
“The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal will hold a Strategic Forum in 2015 that addresses intelligent transportation systems,” Michel Leblanc said. “It will be a unique opportunity to hear from the experts and take inspiration from the modern methods instituted by the world’s largest cities to continue working to improve traffic. We encourage anyone concerned by the issue of traffic and the technology solutions that are within reach to take part in this important activity on intelligent transportation.”
