Montréal, August 8, 2013 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted with Air Canada’s announcement this morning that seasonal service between Montréal and San Francisco will be extended year round starting in November.
“This announcement is excellent news for the city’s economy,” says Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “In addition to reinforcing Montréal-Trudeau Airport’s role as an Air Canada hub, direct service year round will foster access for local companies to the American market on the West Coast. It will allow Americans travelling to Europe and Europeans travelling to the West Coast to stop over more often in Montréal, increasing the economic spinoffs of the service for the city.”
“San Francisco is a business destination that we need to build on,” Michel Leblanc says. “Like Montréal, creative industries play an important role in the city, particularly in the Silicon Valley area, where the IT cluster has tremendous business potential. The Board of Trade encourages businesses to take advantage of direct service between Montréal and San Francisco to develop their presence in this promising market year round.”
“The Board of Trade strongly supports the efforts of Aéroports de Montréal, its partners and the airlines to increase direct air service internationally,” Mr. Leblanc says. “We need to reinforce the city’s role as a major air transport hub in North America. We also hope that direct service will be added to other continents, in particular emerging markets, which are important sources of economic and tourism growth.”
