Launch of the enhanced driver's licence:
A concrete measure to speed up border crossings
Montréal, March 16, 2009 The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes today's launch of a new driver's licence the PC Plus to be used as of June 1 by Quebec drivers crossing the U.S. border.
The Board of Trade feared that new U.S. identification requirements for those wishing to cross the border would slow cross-border travel for tourists and business people. This initiative by the Quebec Government meets a real need. This concrete measure demonstrates that a pro-active, collaborative approach can identify innovative solutions satisfying both the needs of business and security requirements, declared Michel Leblanc, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
We are confident that business people will take full advantage of the opportunities offered by this enhanced driver's licence to strengthen trade with the United States, concluded Leblanc.
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montréal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
