Press Release
Hong Kong: Gateway to the Asian Market
Montréal, February 9, 2010 - The World Trade Centre Montréal-the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal's team of international trade experts-is pleased to welcome the Associate General Director of Invest Hong Kong, Charles Ng, for a breakfast meeting.
"Hong Kong is one of the preferred gateways for all entrepreneurs who wish to make their way onto the Chinese and East Asian markets. With this goal in mind, the World Trade Centre Montréal, which actively supports businesses seeking to conquer new markets, is offering entrepreneurs a chance to familiarize themselves with business opportunities between our metropolitan region and Hong Kong. This talk will allow entrepreneurs to benefit from valuable advice about tapping into the expanding Chinese market," stated the President and CEO of the Board of Trade and the World Trade Centre Montréal, Michel Leblanc.
"Hong Kong, as a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China, represents a real financial and trade hub in East Asia. Owing to a special system of rights for its citizens and foreigners, and to its liberal economic policies, many foreign companies gain access to the Chinese and East Asian markets by first establishing themselves in Hong Kong. It is, in fact, because of this advantageous situation that Hong Kong has attracted the headquarters and regional branches of several companies," continued Michel Leblanc.
"Charles Ng's appearance in Montréal is in keeping with a series of initiatives put forward by the World Trade Centre Montréal to prepare entrepreneurs to successfully position themselves on the Chinese market. This talk also paves the way for the large-scale trade mission to Shanghai and Hong Kong taking place this coming May. The Mayor of Montréal, Gérald Tremblay, will be presiding over this mission, which will take place during Expo 2010 Shanghai China. We hope that many local entrepreneurs will take advantage of the business opportunities within their reach, and the upcoming major projects in Hong Kong," concluded Michel Leblanc.
The breakfast meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 10, from 8:30 am to 10 am, at the InterContinental Hotel. For further information, please visit the Board of Trade website: http://www.btmm.qc.ca/en/calendrier-occasionsDaffaires_hong_kong
