Construction in the Glen Yard:
a new hub of excellence for the life sciences sector
Montréal, April 1st, 2010 - The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted at the start of construction on the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC)'s new Glen Yard campus.
"The start of construction work on the Glen Yard campus is excellent news for Montréal and for Quebec as a whole. Today's announcement shows the commitment of all partners involved in this project. It symbolizes the culmination of a long period of preparation and several months of unremitting work," stated the President and CEO of the Board of Trade, Mr. Michel Leblanc.
This project, which will incorporate in a single site the facilities of the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal Children's Hospital, the Montreal Chest Institute, the Shriners Hospital for Children, and the Cancer Centre and Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre, directly contributes to strengthening the "critical mass" in the area of life sciences in the city.
"Just like the CHUM, the Glen Yard campus will include a world class research centre, which will encourage the establishment of research collaborations, and the development with other research centres and biopharmaceutical companies. The MUHC will also host the Montréal Excellerator, an incubator for the health sector with a unique potential for our economic, medical, and scientific development," declared Michel Leblanc.
"In short, today's announcement-together with those of the start of construction on the CHUM's research centre, the arrival of Warner Bros. in Montréal, and the investments announced in the Quebec budget-is in keeping with a series of excellent news reports for the city," concluded Michel Leblanc.
