Montréal, October 30, 2016 ‒ The Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the signing of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
“The signing of CETA is excellent news. This ambitious agreement will open doors for local businesses to the European market, which represents 500 million consumers in 28 countries. This agreement will definitely contribute to the growth and prosperity of local businesses,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal.
“Throughout the negotiation process, Premier Philippe Couillard and Montréal’s business community sent a strong ongoing message in support of free trade. This unwavering support demonstrates to our international partners that Quebec is open to business and firmly believes in the principles of free trade. Given that over 46% of Quebec's GDP depends on exports of goods and services, this clear message is welcome,” continued Mr. Leblanc.
“Now is the time to celebrate. Canada and Europe have shown leadership by building trust and developing economic and commercial cooperation. This is the best way to fight isolationism and protectionism, which are harmful to economic growth and job creation,” concluded Mr. Leblanc.
