About 20 companies from Quebec were in Germany from April 22 to 27 for a trade mission organized by the Chamber’s international trade experts and Investissement Quebec during the world’s leading trade show for industrial technology: Hannover Messe. Watch the high points of this unique mission.
The importance of digital for our manufacturers
Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Chamber, and Pierre Gabriel Côté, President and CEO of Investissement Québec, tell you more about the Hannover Messe trade show and the goal of this trade mission.
The best of innovation on display at Hannover Messe
The 2018 theme for Hannover Messe was “Integrated Industry – Connect & Collaborate”. Our team of videographers was on location to film the innovations presented.
A future shaped by 3D printers
3D printers are the proof that technology, thanks to computers being able to process billions of bytes of data in real-time, allows us to innovate in ways that seemed impossible three years ago.
How will the potential of 3D printers be used? In the health sector, for instance. During an operation, your doctor will be able to scan your body and replace the damaged part in only a few hours.
Robots, our partners of tomorrow
Thanks to artificial intelligence, a robot can make decisions to reach its objectives. It can adapt to evolving situations by analyzing an infinite amount of data in a few milliseconds and choose the best option.
Inspiring giants of the manufacturing industry
During this trade mission, our participants had the opportunity to meet two titans of the industry: Siemens and Volkswagen.
Siemens: connectivity, efficiency, and security
“Their booth was futuristic. They are fully focused on innovation and offer innovative products to help their clients become more connected and efficient and make their systems more secure. I was really impressed,” said Pierre Gabriel Côté, President and CEO of Investissement Québec.
Volkswagen: a laboratory of innovation
“There’s nothing else like it! We’re talking about 4,000 robots, 70,000 employees including 10,000 specifically assigned to research and development. What impressed me the most is the personalization of their service even though they manufacture such a large number of cars every day,” said Lucie Couturier, partner at Mallette and head of the Réseau IDE.
Quebec companies making their mark
What did Quebec companies take away from the Hannover Messe trade show? Listen to VKS, Kinova, and APN share their impressions.
VKS: making a name on the international stage
There is no hesitation from VKS: Hannover Messe is the perfect opportunity for a manufacturing company to build an international reputation.
Kinova: see what is happening elsewhere to put yourself in a better position
For this company specialized in medical robotics, the experience helped them define their business model, applicable to industry 4.0.
APN: productive meetings
“We wanted to see what people thought of our solution. We were surprised to meet people from Autodesk, SAP, Siemens…” For APN, the trade show served as a springboard to new foreign markets.
According to Michel Leblanc, the manufacturing sector is using digital to develop new ways of doing things. Our companies definitely need to embrace this change.
