Annonces et actions concrètes : Montréal, métropole culturelle est en marche ! (English will follow)

Press release

Announcements and concrete action:
Montreal, a cultural metropolis in motion!

Montreal, February 29, 2008 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and Culture Montréal applaud the concrete action being taken by the partners of Rendez-vous November 2007 to accelerate the deployment of Montreal, Cultural Metropolis. The allocation of funds announced today by the Government of Quebec for the creation of the Maison du festival de jazz will complement the City of Montreal's plans to launch the Place des festivals du Quartier des Spectacles and the preparation of the building site at 2-22. In addition, the Government of Canada has just announced investments in four cultural development projects and support for Montreal's two largest festivals.

“These actions make concrete the commitments of Rendez-vous November 2007,” stated Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “The three levels of government are demonstrating a real willingness to work together to turn the 2007-2017 action plan into reality. And I am very proud to say that by participating in the financing of many of these projects, the private sector continues to be a partner increasingly committed to the creativity, influence and success of Montreal as the cultural metropolis of the 21st century.”

“The collective success of Rendez-vous November 2007 is adding significant momentum to the establishment of the cultural metropolis,” added Simon Brault, president of Culture Montréal. “The investments that have just been announced will strengthen our ability to train artists and provide them with the means to create and distribute their work locally, nationally and internationally. The new partnership being forged through the actions of the art and culture community, the private sector and the three levels of government will assure the success of Montreal's cultural, economic and social renewal efforts.”
