Action plan for the manufacturing sector: A positive step
Montréal, November 23, 2007 The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the implementation by the Quebec Government of an action plan for the manufacturing sector.
In recent years, manufacturing companies in the metropolitan area and throughout Quebec have had to deal with a particularly demanding economic environment. This has been a difficult period for many of them, but it has also provided a unique opportunity to invest in their competitiveness. In our opinion, the Quebec Government has fully grasped both the urgent need to help our companies navigate this difficult period and the opportunity we now have to make them even stronger, declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
For these reasons, we welcome the action plan unveiled today by Premier Jean Charest and Ministers Raymond Bachand and Monique Jérôme-Forget. We believe that by helping companies invest in their own strengths either by upgrading facilities or through continuing education, innovation, or sustainable development the government is making a positive step that will benefit us not just today but also over the medium and long term, concluded Hudon.
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montreal and to provide individuals, merchants, and local businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
