5th anniversary of Montréal’s designation as a UNESCO City of Design:
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is proud to highlight the remarkable work of our local designers
Montréal, April 19, 2011 – As part of the celebrations surrounding the 5th anniversary of Montréal’s designation as a UNESCO City of Design, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is pleased to acknowledge the creators who, through the quality of their work, contribute to our city’s reputation and development.
“For several years now, the Board of Trade has been committed to promoting creative and innovative talent. We firmly believe that this talent is an essential driving force for Montréal’s economic vitality. Design is at the heart of the projects that have contributed to Montréal’s renown. It is therefore one of our strengths and one of our hallmarks,” declared Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade.
“To ensure Montréal’s leadership as a UNESCO City of Design, we encourage designers to incorporate design criteria from the very beginning of their projects. This aspect serves as a powerful business development tool in our city. In fact, over the last few years, several innovative projects of all stripes have been dependent on design. One need only think of the launch of the Quartier international or even of BIXI,” mentioned Michel Leblanc.
“The Board of Trade invites its members and the business community as a whole to keep design alive and to further make it the centre of their new initiatives. The strengthening of the marriage of design and business will be a tremendous asset for Montréal, which can rely on a pool of talented designers to shape our city,” added Michel Leblanc.
“In June, the Board of Trade will hold its Fashion and Clothing Strategic Forum. This event will be a concrete demonstration of our local creators’ ingenuity and of how design contributes to the profitability of our businesses, so as to make Montréal even more creative and prosperous,” concluded Michel Leblanc.
