Launch of the metropolitan cluster mmode: a structuring initiative for a key sector of the city

Montréal, May 29, 2015 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted with the launch of the metropolitan cluster mmode. This initiative of fashion industry leaders will stimulate the sector’s growth and competitiveness and increase its international exposure.

“We would like to congratulate the President of the cluster, François Roberge, as well as industry leaders, who worked very hard in recent years to create this cluster,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade. “By joining forces, the city’s fashion players and designers are sending a clear message to the local and international community about their ambitions and desire to collaborate to get ahead. They can count on the Board of Trade’s support.”

“For the past few years, the Board of Trade has been actively promoting the city’s fashion sector, which accounts for almost half the jobs in the Canadian fashion and clothing industry and which is ranked third in North America for clothing manufacturing,” Michel Leblanc said. “By organizing trade missions to New York and Paris along with a strategic forum devoted to the sector, as well as publishing a study on the creative industries, we have had a front-row seat onto our city’s vitality and creativity.”

“The fashion industry faces many challenges: the availability of labour, integrating new technology, developing new markets and more,” Michel Leblanc said. “But it’s a sector that has proven its ability to adapt to new conditions created by international competition over the years. With the mmode metropolitan cluster developing Montréal’s talent and high-value-added niches via innovation-driven strategies, the Montréal fashion and clothing sector will be more successful than ever.”
