As part of efforts to finance mobility – the Chantier sur le financement de la mobilité within the 2030 Sustainable Mobility Policy – the Chamber submitted its brief entitled Pour un financement visionnaire de la mobilité (visionary financing for mobility). The consultations under way are designed to identify possible solutions to sustain sources of financing at a time when expenses for transit infrastructure and equipment are rising rapidly.
Traffic is a leading concern within the Greater Montréal business community. The harmful effects of increased traffic on businesses and employees and, in turn, on the business environment, are all too real. There is a consensus to invest in public transit and road infrastructure, which is supported by all groups and political parties. The challenge is developing a sustainable financing strategy from the leverage public decision makers already have.
The Chamber has proposed five principles and nine recommendations to guide government action in financing mobility.
