Montréal, July 19, 2021 – The Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal is very pleased with the federal government’s announcement that the borders will be reopened to fully vaccinated US citizens and permanent residents as of August 9.
“For several weeks, we have been calling on the federal government to present a clear plan to reopen the borders. The vaccination campaign in Canada is proving to be effective. Other countries in the same situation, particularly in Europe, listened to their public health authorities, who advocated reopening their borders to fully vaccinated international travellers. It was time to do it here too,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal.
“Welcoming US tourists as of August 9 will help the hotel and tourism sectors recover. We wish Canada had opened its borders to all fully vaccinated international travellers at the same time. We would also like to reiterate our request that the Canadian government ensure the interoperability of proof of vaccination for Canadians and citizens of other countries,” said Michel Leblanc.
