Context
Financial services play a key role in the daily lives of individuals and businesses and in ensuring the economic vitality of Montréal and Québec. The sector is a crucial driver of economic and social development. Over the years, Montréal has set itself apart as a hub for pension fund management, emerging fintechs, international financial centres and, increasingly, sustainable finance. The innovative financial services sector relies on high-quality talent coming out of Montréal’s universities, which educate more than 5,000 students a year and help strengthen Montréal’s position.
In the current environment, our financial institutions have shown remarkable agility in supporting businesses and households, thereby ensuring greater economic stability. Not only must this pace be sustained, but significant resources need to be deployed to address current challenges and opportunities, including the digital transformation, talent, sustainable finance and cyber security.
