Today, Quebec is experiencing a period of economic growth that is revealing with greater urgency the needs of regions and businesses to attract and retain people who contribute to their vitality. Immigration is a source of wealth for Quebec and can be one of the solutions to labour shortage and thus contribute to economic development. For Quebec to be able to take advantage of skills and talents that come from elsewhere, and for immigrants to be able to participate fully in Quebec society in a way that reflects their skills and aspirations, the immigration system needed to be reformed and modernized.
During his first speech at the Chamber, Simon Jolin-Barrette, Minister of Immigration, Francization and Integration, will explain in more detail how the recently implemented reforms will promote successful immigration to Quebec.
The Minister will focus on the following topics:
- A more efficient and timely immigration system to meet Quebec's labour and other needs.
- Personalized services to better francize and integrate immigrants, while strengthening the ministry’s coordinating role in the development and implementation of government services.
- Support for Quebec businesses and communities, coordinated by the Ministère de l'Immigration, de la Francisation et de l'Intégration, so that they can make the most of immigrants’ contributions.
