Liverpool is a 100% Mexican company that was founded in Mexico in 1847 by a Frenchman named Jean-Baptiste Ebrard. Listed on the Mexican stock exchange since 1965, the company is one of the leading retail businesses in Mexico.
The group includes 131 stores in 69 cities in Mexico under two brand names: Liverpool (90 stores) and Fábricas de Francia (41 stores), all of which are department store format.
These stores offer a wide range of products for the whole family, personalized service and strategic locations for a complete shopping experience. The group’s target market is the middle and upper class.
The competitive advantage of these department stores is their ability to offer a superior shopping experience while meeting a vast array of needs.
More information on the group
In 2016, Liverpool acquired a chain of retail stores that belonged to the Walmart group: Suburbia (the second largest shoe and clothing brand in Mexico), for approximately USD1 billion. The acquisition of 124 Suburbia stores was the biggest transaction in the company’s history, and enabled it to expand the services and products it offers.
In 2017, overall consumption slowed in the country, but the Liverpool brand experienced a 23.5% growth in its sales of services and retail products (5.8% excluding Suburbia) for a total of over CAD 7 billion (108.54 billion pesos). In the same year, the group’s online sales exploded, with an increase of 45.6% from 2016, and a cumulative growth of 80% over the last six years.
The group also operates and owns 27 shopping malls with a surface area of over 625,000 m2. They have over 1,500 tenants who receive over 100 million visitors per year.
