Montréal, February 3, 2016 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the agreement struck between TransCanada and ABB to establish a new electrical system production plant in Greater Montréal and create 200 new direct and indirect jobs related to the Energy East project in Quebec. This agreement shows the economic potential of TransCanada’s Energy East pipeline project for Quebec and Montréal.
“The city’s business community believes that the Energy East project, if handled properly, could have a positive economic impact for Quebec and Montréal,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “The agreement between TransCanada and ABB is a good example of the positive aspects of the project, whether for job creation or for reinforcing key expertise for an international company active in the city. This is in addition to other potential benefits from the construction of a pipeline that will help move Canadian oil to the eastern part of the country and on to export markets.”
“The concerns of Quebeckers and Montrealers about the project are legitimate,” Michel Leblanc said. “It is up to TransCanada to do everything it can to ensure the project is accepted by the community. Today’s agreement is a step in the right direction in terms of economic benefits.”
