Desjardins to house its offices in the Olympic Stadium tower: A major move for the economic vitality of eastern Montréal

Montréal, March 7, 2016 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal would like to point to the announcement of Desjardins Group’s impending move to the Olympic Stadium facilities and congratulate the Régie des installations olympiques (RIO) for its efforts in developing its facilities. The arrival of over 1,000 employees beginning in 2018 is excellent news for this part of the city.

“This project is a major move to make the Olympic facilities an important site for economic development in the east end of the city,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “The stadium’s tower, which was a tourist attraction, is becoming more of an economic asset. The RIO will definitely generate additional revenue, and the merchants in this part of Montréal will benefit from having a larger and more stable client base year-round.”

“We tip our hats to the Desjardins Group, which, like Warner Bros. Entertainment when it chose to open offices on Place Émilie-Gamelin, made a business decision that will also reinforce the economic fabric of the city,” Michel Leblanc said. “Congratulations are also in order to the Government of Québec and the RIO, which worked together to develop the potential of an emblematic piece of public infrastructure in Montréal. We encourage other companies to take similar structuring action for the city.”
