Montréal, August 18, 2016 ‒ The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is proud to be working with Mobility Montréal to develop a pilot project to make travel easier in the metropolitan area. This project will take a proactive approach with major generators of travel to reduce employees’ individual commutes, the source of 80% of travel during rush hour.
“Traffic is one of the metropolitan business community’s major concerns,” said Michel Leblanc, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “There are many construction sites in the city. The work is essential for maintaining and improving the quality of local infrastructure, but it creates obstacles to the smooth flow of traffic. We would like to launch a pilot project with the major generators of travel to identify and introduce concrete measures to relieve some of the pressure on the road network.”
“Businesses and institutions have an active role to play in their employees’ mobility,” he continued. “This doesn’t mean removing individual responsibility in the mode of transportation, but rather facilitating and accelerating the transition from cars carrying a single person to collective or active transportation.”
“We are confident we will be able to launch the pilot project in the fall,” Michel Leblanc said. “The Board of Trade would like to thank the members of the Mobility Montréal committee for their support in this project, in particular the Ministère du Transport, with which we are working closely.”
