Sale of Cirque du Soleil: the Board of Trade welcomes news that the head office will remain in Montréal

Montréal, April 20, 2015 ‒ The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted that the Cirque du Soleil’s head office will remain in Montréal, as announced as part of the company’s sale to a consortium of new shareholders: TPG, Fosun and the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec. It also commends the investors’ commitment to ensure the head office remains the home of the company’s creative and artistic departments and the place where strategic decisions are made.

“The fact that someone of Mitch Garber’s calibre has been named Cirque du Soleil’s chairman of the board and that Daniel Lamarre will remain its president and CEO shows a genuine desire to keep the company’s activities in Quebec,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade. “Cirque du Soleil is one of the most important players in the city’s creative industries. It is an example of a company that has experienced remarkable international growth by leveraging local creativity.”

“Cirque du Soleil is one of the best international ambassadors to promote Montréal as a creative city,” Michel Leblanc said. “Being able to continue to leverage locally developed creative expertise and talent was certainly a major factor in the decision to keep the company’s head office in Montréal. This sends a clear message to other international players in the creative industries that our city has significant assets.”

“Head offices are an essential driver for economic development and the city’s reputation,” Mr. Leblanc said. “In addition to providing quality jobs and significant tax benefits, they contribute to the economic vitality of Montréal through their suppliers.”
