Montréal, June 8, 2015 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and its team of international trade experts, the World Trade Centre Montréal, successfully concluded the third trade mission to Miami for the hotel sector on Friday, which 10 companies took part in. Business meetings and networking activities with well-known groups such as Turner, Suffolk, AECOM, Heery International and Sandals Resorts gave companies a chance to take advantage of opportunities related to decor, renovations and construction material and equipment in the hotel industry and to make connections with potential partners. The mission, which took place June 2 to 5, was organized in cooperation with Export Québec and the Quebec Trade Branch in Atlanta.
“The Board of Trade led a third trade mission because of the importance of this market,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade. “The Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Pompano Beach area has the highest density of hotels in the U.S. Miami has over 500 hotels and around 50,000 rooms. The city is one of the U.S. destinations where the occupancy rate (80%) is the highest and where the average annual price of rooms increased over $40 in five years, allowing hotel owners to invest in infrastructure.”
“Miami’s hotel sector has seen remarkable growth with the planned construction of 7,500 new rooms between 2015 and 2017,” Michel Leblanc said. “In addition to new hotels being built, well-known investment companies are acquiring existing hotels to renovate them and operate them more profitably. Florida is also trying to position itself as one of the country’s leading destinations for conferences and exhibitions, and certain Brazilian and European airlines have announced they are increasing the number of flights to the destination. The Board of Trade plans to organize a fourth trade mission in the next year to help companies capitalize on this growth.”
“This is the third time Produits Neptune has taken part in a trade mission to Florida, and the first two times produced results,” said Alexandre Marchand, CEO of Produits Neptune. “The meetings were well planned and their calibre reflected our needs. Produits Neptune signed contracts during the two last trade missions, and we intend to do the same with this one. We believe we have a 90% chance of success given the quality of the contacts we made during the week.”
“The trade mission was highly profitable,” said Tracy Cummings from Concept SGA. “I already have an account opening to send. The networking and meetings with architects also contributed to our success. The Board of Trade and the WTCM’s influence made it easier to get in touch with architects, entrepreneurs and real estate developers. It was also great to network with the other Quebec companies that took part in the mission.”
