Montréal, November 19, 2015 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is delighted with Air Canada’s announcement today of three new flights from Montréal to the U.S. Beginning in summer 2016, members of the city’s business community will have easier access to Philadelphia and Houston, in addition to a first flight to Denver.
“This is excellent news for the city’s business community because the U.S. is the main foreign trading partner for local companies,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “Our neighbour is already the destination for almost 70% of the value of Quebec exports, and the economic recovery that is well under way should generate tremendous business opportunities in some of the city’s leading sectors. These new flights will help local companies deploy their sales force in the United States.”
“These flights will strengthen Montréal’s position as an air hub between North America and Europe,” Michel Leblanc said. “They are an important addition in anticipation of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement between Canada and the European Union coming into force.”
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is a member of the Joint Task Force on Direct Flights, along with Aéroports de Montréal, Tourisme Montréal and Montréal International. This group was established in November 2014 as part of I see mtl. Members of the task force have committed to developing strategies and stepping up efforts to help establish new direct flights from Montréal and to make sure those that already exist remain. “A new flight to Houston is important for us, because it is a destination that we consider essential for the development of local businesses on the American market,” Michel Leblanc said. “In cooperation with Export Québec, we recently published a special report on business opportunities in Texas, particularly Houston.”
